This Tunisia Post stamp illustrates in detail a Carthaginian galley, symbol of the maritime power of ancient Carthage. In the center of the stamp is depicted an ancient warship with multiple banks of rowers, propelled by the oar, which is characteristic of Phoenician and Carthaginian triremes and quinqueremes. At the bow of this ship, we can clearly see a rostrum, or spur, a pointed piece of bronze used to break through the hull of enemy ships. Although primarily propelled by oar, the galley is depicted with a mast and a full sail, indicating its ability to sail offshore.

The scene is framed by classical columns and statues, highlighting the historical and cultural significance of the ship. It is surrounded by the inscription “Tunisie Postes”. The inclusion of this ship on a modern Tunisia Post stamp highlights the deep historical link between present-day Tunisia and its Phoenician-Carthaginian past, making this galley a symbol of the region's maritime history.
