Description
This stamp highlights the “Haouanet”, unique burial chambers dug into the side of a rock wall, characteristic of northern Tunisia (Sejnane region). Dating from around 1000 BC, these rock burials bear witness to the mortuary rites of the indigenous Berber populations well before Roman influence. The illustration shows the rectangular opening of one of these vaults on a blue and gray checkerboard background, symbolizing the persistence of vernacular architecture. It is a tribute to the deep anchoring of Tunisian identity in its rocky land and to the continuity of the country's thousand-year-old funerary memory.
