Description
The illustration shows the Arcades of the “Grands thermal baths” of Maktar (Mactaris), a major site in the high plains of west-central Tunisia. These Roman and Numidian remains bear witness to urban refinement and the social importance of hydrotherapy in Antiquity. By celebrating this monument, La Poste highlights the geographical diversity of Tunisian heritage, recalling that the history of the country is inscribed in each region, where the stones tell of a sedimentation of cultures and an age-old art of living turned towards the city.
