Description
Created by Hatem El Mekki, this stamp celebrates Rjim Maatoug's project, a major success for Tunisia in the creation of oases in the middle of the desert. The abundant illustration shows a cornucopia pouring out fruits and vegetables (tomatoes, radishes, watermelons, dates) in front of an irrigated palm grove, contrasting with the dunes and camels in the background. This stamp illustrates man's victory over aridity. Rjim Maatoug has become a symbol of sustainable development and the settlement of Saharan populations thanks to water control and phoeniciculture (date palm cultivation).
