Description
This stamp from the Tunisian Republic highlights the figure of Habib Bourguiba, the main architect of the country's independence and first president of Tunisia. Through the representation of his profile, the program underlines the central role he played in the construction of the modern Tunisian state after the end of the French protectorate in 1956. The image refers to a period marked by the establishment of republican institutions, social and educational reforms, as well as the desire to assert a strong national identity based on sovereignty and modernization. By disseminating the effigy of the Head of State on a postal stamp, Tunisia also expresses the symbolic dimension of mail as a vector of the official image of the country, recalling the political leadership and the spirit of transformation which accompanied the first decades of the Republic.
